We get this question a lot, so I thought I would do a post on this. Its and involved process. We do not provide an exact "how to" but this post covers the general guidelines to follow. The headliner must be taken out. You cannot just "mount" L track. There is much more involved in a van with Roof AC and you cannot do upper L track on these vans with rear AC. Figure this is at least a 2 day project if not longer for a DIYer for just the L track alone. You should at the same time do electrical, your van, insulation, sound deaden, roof rack rails, fan cut out...its not a project you can complete in an afternoon. We charge just over $2000 to provide this service depending on the specifics.

There is no "kit" specifically designed for an OEM headliner. Regardless of what you use, you will have some custom modifications needed to get it to fit.
What is involved in adding L track to mount cabinets in the factory Headliner?
You must reinforce behind headliner by putting in some type of truss system to mount to. This can be done DIY or you can use a brace kit like this from RB Components. You will have to possibly do some modification to get it to fit. On the side of the headliner you will have to take up the "gap" between the headliner and wall, this can be done with aluminum or a wood spacer to take up that gap. There are many other brace kits, but the point is you must use some type of truss system to tie into.
How do I mount the Track?
Depending on the load and your bracing you can use a self tapping screw or Riv-nut. Depends on application and your brace kit. If a heavy load like beds or a hammock, you might should weld your bracing in and use riv-nuts, for cabinets this is not needed usually.
How long is the L track you use?
We use custom 100" to give enough spacing for two 48" Van Essentials cabinets, this provides a gap between them. You can use shorter, but you don't get that gap or go longer depending on your brace kit length you make up.
Spacing
This all depends on what you are mounting, you will need to measure and test fit you location of the L track depending on what you are mounting.
Can this be done with rear factory AC in a passenger van?
Yes, but a bit differently, we cannot run L track on the upper headliner and have to use different storage solution in rear. Its a bit trickier due to the rear AC.
